What is the difference between Premium 18/10 Stainless Steel and Quality Stainless Steel (also referred to as 18/0)?
Premium 18/10 Stainless Steel refers to the composition of the metal - 18% chromium and 10% nickel. Quality Stainless Steel has 18% chromium but no nickel. Nickel makes the steel whiter in colour and gives a more luminous polish. Both are highly resistant to rust and marking.
Is Stanley Rogers cutlery suitable for the dishwasher?
Yes. All Stanley Rogers cutlery is suitable for the dishwasher. There are some dos and don'ts: DO follow the dishwashwer manufacturer's instructions, particularly in relation to adding dishwasher salt. DO rinse your cutlery as soon as possible after use. Salts and food acids start to degrade and/or mark the surface if left in contact for prolonged periods. DO remove and towel dry immediately after the wash/dry cycle is finished. If cutlery is left to cool and dry in the dishwasher, trace mineral salts and dishwasher salt residue will start the pitting and staining process. DO NOT over fill the cutlery basket in the dishwasher as this may cause marks. DO NOT mix stainless steel and silver plated cutlery in the dishwasher basket as a chemical reaction between detergents and steel can leave marks on silver plate.
What is the best way to wash my cutlery?
The best way to wash your cutlery is by hand washing. There are some dos and don'ts: Do rinse your cutlery as soon as possible after use. Salts and food acids start to degrade and/or mark the surface if left in contact for prolonged periods. Do dry immediately after washing to remove any detergent and avoid water marks. DO NOT leave your cutlery to soak as a means of removing food residue. There are mineral salts in tap water that are corrosive to metal. The damage that can be caused by one overnight soak is considerable. DO NOT use abrasive scourers or detergents on your cutlery - they will cause very fine scratches that will dull the shine over time.
What should I do if my cutlery has marks on it?
We recommend a cleaner or polish for stainless steel. These can easily be found at your local hardware or grocery store. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. Do not use silver polish on stainless steel as it will damage the surface.
What is the difference between a "formal place setting" and a "casual place setting"?
Traditionally, a formal place setting includes 6-7 pieces: table knife, table fork, entrée knife, entrée fork, dessert spoon, teaspoon and optional soup spoon. This is typically used for entertaining or two courses. A casual place setting depends on the meal and what is being served. It usually does not include entrée knife, entrée fork or soup spoon. As our eating and dining habits are changing we are much more accepting of variations of these.
Does Stanley Rogers cutlery have a warranty or guarantee?
Yes, all Stanley Rogers cutlery comes with a guarantee. Depending on the cutlery it will have a 25 year or 50 year guarantee against manufacturing faults. For full details see our warranty statement on our packaging or our website.
